Hottest Christmas Toys - Get Them Before Santa Beats You To It

By Ledley Withenshaw

One of the most exciting and favorite times of the year is Christmas. Spending time with family and friends, singing carols, preparing to cook large feasts and putting up the tree with beautiful lights are all well-loved traditions. When it comes to our children, we anxiously scour the stores and the internet for the hottest Christmas toys of the year. Each year is different, but there are also enduring favorites.

If you don't have any idea what some of the hottest Christmas toys are, now is the time to do such research. You can pay attention to TV ads, look around the newspaper ads and check online. Begin to take note of some of these ideas and plan on shopping early. The most highly sought after toys will go faster than you expect, so once you decide whether a particular toy is suitable for your child you should really consider buying it to avoid disappointment when they're sold out.

For the third consecutive year one of the hottest Christmas toys and most favored and most wanted gifts is the Wii game console. This gaming system that easily hooks to your TV has action games that are almost real life. It offers a lot of interactive play that makes it so fun with the baseball, tennis, bowling and other games that you can play with all the family members. Even exercise is made enjoyable with the hot Wii Fit.

For a video gaming system that has a host of activities in addition to games is the PS3. This like the Wii provides hours and hours of fun. There are games to play for all ages and it has other entertainment features and activities. With the capacity to store your games, videos, photos and music, the PS3 represents an excellent value as one of the hottest Christmas toys that the entire family can enjoy for years to come. The built-in Blu-ray player will deliver eye-popping, high-definition video as a welcome bonus for this machine.

To compete with the Wii, PS3 and Xbox 360 game consoles are releasing their own versions of motion sensitive video gaming. They are called Move and Kinect, respectively, and there has been much fanfare around their launches. They actually look really good, especially the Kinect, that doesn't require the use of a controller. For folks that own these consoles and felt a little left out by the Wii phenomenon, this is their chance to play motion sensor video games. And from the buzz going on around these products, I imagine they will be pretty popular this Christmas.

Back to the basics for boys on your list, they'll be looking forward to action figures. These are on the hottest Christmas toys list every season, the figures just change from year to year. This year the top favorites are Bakugan 7 in 1 Maxus Dragonoid, Transformers that turn from robots to vehicles and back again and Ben 10, television action figure packed with powers that the kids love. Anything you see to create spying adventures with night vision, infrared, and gps systems are hot.

For the young female home makers, there is cupcake makers, baking ovens, pizza makers that will let them whip up fabulous treats. For genuinely fun and durable baking set, you'll want to take a look at the Melissa & Doug series of pretend treats. Among the most sought-after and hottest Christmas toys is the Slice and Bake Cookie Set that will provide loads of fun for everyone. Don't forget, Barbie dolls and all of the accessories including the automobile are still a favorite. For 2009, look for Barbie's fiftieth anniversary to be a big event.

For old fashioned fun, there are old favorites still topping the hottest Christmas toys list. These are musical entertainment toys like guitars, interactive pianos with lighting and a variety of sounds, music mixers, and karaoke toys. The most popular board games providing hours of fun are Monopoly, Sorry, Uno, and even Candyland. Bear in mind that it doesn't need to be the latest and greatest in technology to be fun for the kids. Family game night still is one of the best activities you can do with and for your children!
